The Puy Vachier Lake from the mid-station of the Téléphérique de La Grave

The hike to the lake, embedded in its rocky cirque, offers beautiful views on the pastures and peaks on south side of the valley : the Emparis plateau as well as the peaks of Goléon, Mas de La Grave, Aiguilles d’Arves and Trois Evêchés.

From the mid-station (2400 m) of the La Grave gondola lift, Téléphériques des Glaciers de la Meije, follow the signs for the Lac de Puy Vachier and REfuge Chancel.

At the start, the path drops around 60 m. At junction with the path leading down to La Grave, take to the left the path that crosses the hillside to reach the lake.

Go back by the same path.

CLOSE BY
The Chancel Hut, 120 m meters above the lake, where it is possible to have a meal or spend the night.

Puy Vachier Lake

Puy Vachier Lake is at the bottom of a valley surrounded by rocky bar in a rather mineral world, close to the second intermediate of the cable car station; about 1 hour walk.
There is a lovely larch forest in lowlands of the Lake.
