Across the Romanche Valley

During these two 3 or 4 day hikes you will go across the entire upper Romanche Valley, enjoying the spectacular views of the glacier and the summits of the Ecrins National Park, in particular the majesetic Meije culminating at 3983 m.

3 days from Besse to Casset / Mônetier-les-Bains by the GR54 and balcony trails

1st day :

Besse 1548 m – Col de Souchet 2365 m – Lac Noir, plateau d’Emparis 2456 m - Le Chazelet 1800 m

+ 1000 m, 16 km

2nd day :

Le Chazelet 1800 m – Col des Portes 1856 m – Les Hières 1770 m – L’Aiguillon 2059 m – Lac du Pontet 1982 m - Alpe de Villar d’Arène 2077 m

+ 770 m, 20 km

3rd day:

 

Alpe de Villar d’Arène 2077 m – Col d’Arsine 2320 m – Lacs d’Arsine 2458 m – Le Casset / Mônetier-les-Bains 1500 m

+ 380 m, 15 km

4 days from Mizoën to Casset / Mônetier-les-Bains on the GR54 Tour of the Ecrins

1st day:

Mizoën – Refuge de Mouterres

Refuge de Mouterres – Col du Souchet - the lakes of the Emparis Plateau - La Grave

3rd day :

La Grave – Alpe de Villar

Possibility of taking a detour by to the sources of the Romanche River

4th day :

Alpe de Villar – Col d'Arsine - Arsine Glacier Lakes - Mônetier-les-Bains

+380 m, 15 km, 5h30

 

It is possible to come by bus : to get here, take the LER35 from Grenoble to the Barrage du Chambon. To get back to Grenoble take LER 35 from Mônetier-les-Bains.
