The telemark activity is a skiing technique coming directly from the Scandinavian countries. This sport was named after 'the Telemark County" in Norway and was invented in 1868 by Sondre Norheim, a joiner from this particular county.
This activity is quite similar to downhill skiing, nonetheless your boots are only fastened to your skis at the front so you can lift your heels. Hence it can allow you to flex your internal leg in order to make harmonious turns known as "telemark turn".
However a good knowledge of downhill skiing techniques can be more than useful to enjoy the wide range of sensations that telemarking offers.
