The 2023 Meidjo Telemark Festival edition
The event is a welcoming telemark gathering at La Grave and Villar d'Arène. It is the perfect occasion to learn how to ride with telemark skis while discovering La Grave off-piste territory. This festival is open to everyone, and the cherry on the cake is that you are lucky to ski at 3600m above sea level on the Girose Glacier.
Moreover, the Meidjo Telemark association plans evening activities for the weekend, such as a film projection, discussions, warm and hearty meals and concerts. The perfect mix to create a warm environment in order to have a great weekend!
WHAT IS TELEMARK SKIING?

The telemark activity is a skiing technique coming directly from the Scandinavian countries. This sport was named after 'the Telemark County" in Norway and was invented in 1868 by Sondre Norheim, a joiner from this particular county.
This activity is quite similar to downhill skiing, however your boots are only fastened to your skis at the front so you can lift your heels. Hence it can allow you to flex your internal leg in order to make harmonious turns known as "the telemark turn".
However a good knowledge of downhill skiing techniques can be more than useful to enjoy the wide range of sensations that telemarking offers.
